Tribal Court
The Umatilla Tribal Court was established by the Board of Trustees and consists of the Chief Judge, Tribal Prosecutor, Public Defender, Court Administrator and Clerk.
The Court is vested with jurisdiction to enforce all provisions of the Umatilla Criminal Code against Indians violating the Code within the boundaries of the Reservation and against any Tribal member exercising treaty hunting and fishing rights beyond the boundaries of the Reservation.
Tribal Court also has civil jurisdiction over laws, codes and policies governing the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation adopted by the Board of Trustees. The Umatilla Tribal Court exercises tribal sovereign powers in accordance with principles of due process and equal protection of the laws required by the Indian Civil Rights Act and Tribal laws.
